MLB Sees Biggest August Weekend Attendance Since 2015

Major League Baseball delivered exciting news this week, announcing that attendance numbers over the weekend of August 8–10 reached their highest level for an August weekend since 2015. Nearly 1.6 million fans packed stadiums across the country, proving that even in the dog days of summer, baseball continues to draw massive crowds.

For many families, it was the final weekend of summer before kids head back to school, and fans showed up in full force. The surge comes as pennant races tighten across the league. In both the National League and American League, three Wild Card spots remain in play, while divisional battles in the NL West and AL West are separated by just a single game. Meanwhile, the NL Central features a team on a remarkable run, having recorded its second 10-game winning streak of the season.

Stars Fueling the Excitement

Some of baseball’s biggest names are helping drive fan interest. Cal Raleigh currently leads MLB with 45 home runs, while Shohei Ohtani and Kyle Schwarber remain close behind with 42 each. Aaron Judge, meanwhile, continues to battle for the league’s best batting average, hitting .336 as he looks to hold off challengers.

Even with struggles from both New York teams, the season remains full of meaningful matchups. The classic Yankees–Red Sox rivalry is heating up again, with just 1.5 games separating the two. In Chicago, the Cubs remain firmly in the playoff race and are energizing their fan base with the rise of young talent.

Attendance Outlook

With six weeks left in the regular season, MLB attendance is expected to remain strong, especially as the playoff picture sharpens. Despite looming discussions of a potential lockout in 2027, fans are clearly embracing the excitement of the 2025 season.

For now, it’s a great time to be a baseball fan — and there’s no better place to experience it than at the ballpark.
